DISCOVER MERMAID (BEGINNER)

Mermaiding has become an increasingly popular way to explore underwater environments, and with the PADI Discover Mermaid program, you can experience it for yourself. This beginner-level program is designed to be flexible, informative, enjoyable, and above all, safe, as you discover the thrill of mermaid diving.

To enroll in the Discover Mermaid experience, you must be at least six years old (parental permission and presence at all times is mandatory) and comfortable in the water. No prior experience with snorkeling, skin diving or freediving is required, making it accessible to everyone who is interested. The experience consists of two introductory phases: first, you'll receive a briefing from your PADI Mermaid Instructor to learn the basics about being a mermaid. Then, you'll don a mermaid tail and other mermaid costuming (depending on the situation) and participate in a shallow water session of mermaid swimming, going underwater, and games.

In this program, you will use a monofin (i.e. mermaid tail), mask, snorkel, and fins. Using gear designed specifically for mermaiding is best, but in this introductory experience, you may be able to use snorkeling equipment you already own. If you are a freediver, some of your gear (e.g. mask, fins, snorkel) can also be used for mermaiding.

Safety is of utmost importance in mermaiding, and the Discover Mermaid experience is designed to be controlled and enjoyable, with an emphasis on letting you discover what it's like to be a mermaid.
